Hi #YugenCommunity! How are you today?
Lately, Trinidad and Tobago has been making some significant steps towards sustainability with the most recent step being Nelson Island’s designation as a Sustainable Eco-Development Heritage Site in late October.
This designation was made possible by The National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago who were instrumental in obtaining and installing a solar powered system to provide the electrical needs of the island such as lighting, security systems, data communications and appliances. Furthermore, a small solar-powered desalination plant was installed to meet the potable water needs of the island.
The Trust stated that this is in keeping with Trinidad and Tobago’s commitments under the Paris Agreement as well as the national policy target to increase the amount of electricity produced from renewable sources by 2021. It also keeps in line with our country’s goal and commitment to reducing the country’s greenhouse gas emissions through the use of cleaner forms of energy which is part of our National Development Strategy, Vision 2030.

So I’d like to hear from you, do you think this designation will encourage more people and organizations to adopt sustainable practices?
