Hey #YugenCommunity!
Please allow me to introduce myself as one of your Community Managers, Caron. I will be creating a new post every Friday and I am so excited to interact with everyone ð
Today I thought it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on Eco-friendly personal care, that is, all the things we do to groom ourselves. Personal care products can range from toothbrushes to leave-in conditioner to body lotion to beard oil!
Personal care is something that is important to a lot of us and makes us feel pampered and prepared to face the day ahead. At the moment, we are witnessing a trend towards products that are made from organic materials, contain Eco-friendly ingredients, and are not tested on animals. Companies have also been dedicated to ensuring that their packaging is biodegradable or made from recycled material.
This is super important to the Caribbean region in order to minimize land pollution and safeguard our wildlife and natural resources such as our reefs and waterways. I also love that a lot of these products are being made by local companies and artisans which means that we can support our local economy and minimize our carbon footprint associated with importation.
Personally, I would love to see more natural hair products with Eco-friendly packaging.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the following:
What are your favourite Eco-friendly personal care brands?
What is one product that you would love to see designed and manufactured sustainably?
What do you think can be done to get more persons to switch to Eco-friendly personal care?
What are some Eco-friendly personal care products that you love so far?
-Caron D.
Hey Caron!
You made some extremely good points here and i fully agree with minimizing land pollution in the Caribbean!
1.) Recently I started using the Organi Cup (vegan and cruelty free) to replace using pads and throwing them back into the environment from a local store on IG called atf.tt and their reusable straws with cleaners and I must say it feels good to contribute to less waste and its going well so far for me!
2.) I'd love to see just like you said natural hair products with sustainable packaging
3.) To get every one to start caring about the products they use daily comes down to education firstly and then subsidizing on products because some how sustainability costs more lol
I really enjoyed this post :) Can't wait for next week!
Hey! So I haven't tried any of the eco-friendly brands as yet but one brand I love that i see on Instagram is Nuba Caribbean which is a local skincare line. Just like you, I would love to see more eco-friendly packaging of hair care products especially shampoos.
I think to get more people to start using eco-frinedly brands, more information needs to be put into the public domain to educate persons on the short term and long term benefits of using such products on the environment.
Hi Caron!
Great points about personal care tbh!
Honestly, since I started to learn more about the chemicals that are in some skin/hair/general PC brands, I've been really minimal in my routine....
However, some top choices are:
My Cedros Bay Lip Balm (@cedrosbay on IG)!
My toothpaste tabs and bamboo toothbrush from Harmony Eco (@harmonyeco on IG)!
My nourishing hair oil from Aurora Bitayson Limited, La Fillette Village (@aurorabitaysonlimited on IG).
My "Simple" Replenishing Rich Moisturiser which is sadly almost done :(
I also agree with you about the need for more hair care products that come in sustainable packaging because it's so hard to find them :(
Finally, I think discussions like this will help to encourage persons because i'm sure a lot of people may not know about options that can be purchased locally...
